The skyrocketing cost of electromechanical work, due to its high labour contenti, has led to the introduction of “C” type cores, known in Great Britain as “C type Wound Cores” and in Germany as “Schnittbandkerne”. The wound cores are made of grain oriented steel strips, affording minimum specific losses in the direction of grain orientation (for certain types, the loss is lower than 1W/kg at 1.5 Tesla) and very good initial and high-induction permeability values. Thanks to these features, it is possible to manufacture high efficiency equipment requiring a minimum amount of material and minimum assembly times and, therefore, reduced costs. The “C” core is impregnated with a special epoxy resin: it is compact and rigid and thus scarcely affected by mechanical vibrations, although operating at high magnetic induction (up to 1.7 Tesla) and at maximum temperatures of 140° C.
